8-bit

I've known about 8-bit music for a while. I've read a couple articles about it. I thought it was interesting. Then today, after watching Tron: Legacy for the 9th time, I decided to search Derezzed Dubstep. HEY! Dubstep, done right, is like... I can't even begin to describe it to a layman.

Anyway, they didn't have a ton of acceptable Derezzed Dubsteps... but Youtube had a large amount of Tron: Legacy and Daft Punk 8-bit songs. So I hopped into the world of 8-bit. My mind was blown. When I found Duel of Fates - NES (which stands for Nintendo Entertainment System), I knew that my life had just changed.

But eventually I exhausted the interesting 8-bit links and went back to listening to electronic remixes of songs... and the richness of sound was ecstatic. So 8-bit does two things really well:

1) By listening to 8-bit music you can more easily imagine the world as an imaginative video game (a la Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe).

2) When you finally decide to listen to "real" music, it will feel more real than usual.

This is just the latest example of me cheating the system by finding an unhealthy amount of pleasure in something that isn't illegal or habit forming... I think. I did download a ton of free 8-bit songs... so I may be "gone" for the next couple of days.
